Are you suffering from a long-term headache? If so, you’re not alone. A new study has found that as many as one in three people may experience a long-lasting headache due to COVID-19, known as a COVID long haul headache.

But what is a Long COVID and how can you manage Long COVID symptoms, such as a long-lasting headache? Let’s discuss.

What is Long Haul Covid?

Long COVID is also known as post-COVID syndrome (PASC) or Long Haul COVID.

When someone is considered to have Long COVID, it typically means they recovered from COVID-19 but are now experiencing one or more health issues. These issues can linger for weeks or even months post-infection.

It is also important to note that the severity of the original COVID-19 infection does not play a role in determining whether or not a person experiences Long COVID symptoms. As of now, the medical community is working every day to better understand the disease and its impact on specific individuals.

What are the Long Haul Covid-19 symptoms?

Long haul COVID-19 symptoms can vary significantly from person to person. Some people may experience only a few mild symptoms, while others may become seriously ill.

Some of the most common long-haul COVID symptoms include:

  • Chest pain: Chest pain can signify many different problems, including heart disease, lung problems, and infections.
  • Difficulty breathing: Difficulty breathing can signify many different problems, including asthma, heart attacks, and pneumonia.

Other symptoms can include:

  • Nausea
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Hair loss
  • Memory loss

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is recommended to speak with a medical professional.

While many of these symptoms are considered not severe, there is a potential for more serious medical complications. These complications can include renal failure, myocarditis, and pulmonary fibrosis.

What is a COVID Long Haul headache?

COVID can cause a long-haul headache. This type of headache is caused by the virus and can last for weeks or even months. Symptoms of a COVID long haul headache include pressure in your head, throbbing pain, sensitivity to light, and neck pain. These headaches can be quite severe and may interfere with your ability to work or perform everyday activities.

When should you get treatment for a COVID Long Haul headache?

The CDC recommends that people who are experiencing a COVID long haul headache should seek treatment if their symptoms persist for more than ten days. While the cause of these headaches is not yet known, they may be related to the virus itself or other factors such as stress or lack of sleep. Some common symptoms of a COVID long-haul headache include throbbing pain, pressure in the temples, and sensitivity to light and sound.

Treatment options for COVID long haul headache vary depending on the individual’s symptoms and preferences but may include over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, prescription medications, lifestyle changes such as getting more exercise or improving sleep hygiene, or complementary therapies such as acupuncture or massage.

Who gets Long Haul COVID, and is there a test for it?

While it is still unclear who exactly gets Long Haul COVID, we know a few things. It is believed that the virus can be spread through close contact with an infected person. Additionally, there is no test for Long Haul COVID, which can make it challenging to determine if someone has Long Haul COVID symptoms.

However, if you’re experiencing certain symptoms (such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest pain), you can take a free online assessment to determine if you are eligible for a non-invasive long haul COVID treatment

Managing your Long COVID symptoms: What are the next steps?

The first step to better managing Long COVID symptoms is to get informed. Educate yourself on the symptoms of Long Haul Covid, including COVID long haul headache, and when the best time to seek treatment is. If you think you may be experiencing some of the symptoms, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. Treatments are available that can help ease your symptoms and improve your quality of life.
